About

I am the son of a PhD chemist and a nationally renowned watercolor artist. I was raised with a brush in one hand and science book in the other, and photography is a way to bring both worlds together in one place. I can geek out about the engineering marvel in my hand, and lose myself for hours composing an image that makes me happy. I do not profess to be a professional photographer, and have made my living as an engineer and a government bureaucrat, with degrees in Geology and Metallurgical Engineering. The art of photography is something I have gravitated to most of my life, but for which I have little formal training. Perhaps I should fix that sometime…

I have lived most of my life in Eastern Idaho in the shadow of the Tetons, and the backyard of Yellowstone. Mountains and the creatures that call those places home are my escape, my safe space. It is there that my bride of 38 years (and counting) and I slip off the beaten path and into the wilderness to explore, to discover, and to connect…both with the planet and with each other.

We count ourselves fortunate to be parents of four incredible young people, who have connected with their partners in ways that make us proud, and have in turn gifted us three (and counting) grandchildren. The love they have for the mountains and the creatures that live in the wilderness is the evidence that we did something right as parents.
